Several natural calamities hit some parts of the Philippines in 2011. The disaster brought by the typhoon Sendong was the latest. The mere fact that it happened a few days before Christmas made it more heartbreaking.

I saw photos of wrecked houses and infrastructures that went viral in social networking sites like Facebook. At first, I thought it was another hoax from the internet. I ignored it. On the streets, I heard people talking about those pictures. They also mentioned Iligan City, Cagayan de Oro City and Dumaguete City, 3 of the cities I have personal connection with. Then news reports confirmed it. Photos of dead people were everywhere. There was even a point when I couldn’t afford to watch TV. It felt like a nightmare.
